This award was established in 2011 by the Pittsburgh Coal Mining Institute of America (PCMIA) to annually recognize a outstanding student who is planning post-secondary education in Mining Engineering Technology.

Background

This award was established in 2011 by the Pittsburgh Coal Mining Institute of America (PCMIA) to annually recognize a outstanding student who is planning post-secondary education in Mining Engineering Technology.

The award consists of the scholarship funds and a commemorative self-standing acrylic plaque that is presented at the annual luncheon of the PCMIA which is normally held in late October.

NOMINATION MATERIALS

Applicant must be enrolled in the Associate Degree Mining Engineering Technology program at Penn State Fayette; or a high school senior planning post-secondary education in the Mining Engineering Technology program at Penn State Fayette, and attending one of the following high schools: Albert Gallatin, Belle Vernon, Bentworth, Berlin Brothersvalley; Beth-Center, Brownsville, California, Canon McMillan, Carmichaels, Champion Christian, Charleroi, Chartiers-Houston, Clay-Batelle, Connellsville, Connellsville Area CTC, Fayette County AVTS, Frazier, Geibel Catholic, Greater Latrobe, Greene County Vo-Tech, Jefferson Morgan, Laurel Highlands, Lighthouse Christian, Mapletown, McGuffey, Meyersdale, Monessen, Mon-Valley CTC, Mt. Carmel Christian, Mt. Pleasant, Mt. Zion Christian, Open Door Christian, Rockwood, Salisbury-Elk Lick, Shanksville-StoneyCreek, Somerset, Somerset CTC, Southmoreland, Trinity, Turkeyfoot Valley, Uniontown, Washington, Waynesburg Central, and West Greene.

AWARDS PROCESS

The PCMIA Awards Committee solicits nominations for this award at the beginning of each calendar year. Nominations for the award may be made through September 30th of any given year and are considered active for three years from the submission date.

Upon review of all active submissions for the award, the PCMIA Awards Committee will recommend a nominee to the PCMIA Board of Directors for approval. Upon approval, the successful nominee will be notified by early October. The award is presented at the annual luncheon of the PCMIA which is normally held in late October of each year.It is tradition that the recipient be scheduled as a featured speaker following the annual PCMIA luncheon.
