The Background & History of MRVPD

Mine Rescue Veterans of the Pittsburgh District was chartered in 1928. It is an invitational body whose objective is “…is to advance the sciences and engineering practices related to the prevention and control of mine fires and explosions, the safety and efficient methods of mine rescue and recovery operations following mine fires and explosions, the professional improvement of its members; and the encouragement of a fraternal esprit de corps among men and women who are engaged in, and responsible for mine rescue and recovery work.”
