PCMIA’s history is vast and spans from 1887 when the first meetings were held in the Pittsburgh mining region until today.  Meeting notes in the form of book volumes were published from 1911 until 1984.  Copies of these volumes are held at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and NIOSH Pittsburgh Mining Research Division in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.  We have since expanded our reach, and currently organize one joint off the books meeting with the Pittsburgh section of SME every October in Canonsburg PA.  PCMIA’s meetings have always recognized the relevant topics in the mining industry and are a great place to meet with and discuss industry issues with fellow colleagues.

In 2021 PCMIA and Bill Reid came together to create a book on the history of the PCMIA.  Additional information for the book is listed below.
